I have a small console table that I bought painted in Farrow & Ball paint. However it was a bit one-dimensional and not distressed enough for me so I have now transformed it.  I "attacked" it with some sandpaper to try and enhance the detail on it and discovered some nice gilt paint underneath. I then painted it in Annie Sloan's Chateau Grey paint which is one of my favourite colours. 

It's so easy to transform a piece of furniture with a coat or two of Annie Sloan paint.  It's better than Farrow & Ball because it does not require you to use any undercoat(s).  You just slap on the Annie Sloan colour you fancy, add a layer of clear wax, rubbing hard to distress in the areas you want it distressed, and then a layer of dark wax if you want an antique look.

You'll spot in the photos that I have a new runner on the floor. It's very Hungarian and very old and I bought it from one of my favourite shops, The Cloth Shop in Portobello Road.

I wanted to make more of a statement when you enter my home. I think the transformation of the table, coupled with the runner, really do add another dimension.
