Sourcing a unique lamp and materials at Decorex 2013
Decorex is a fantastic interior design event at the heart of the London design community. It's mainly for trade (I sneaked in as The Flair Fairy, my blog name!) but has two public open days.
This year it was held in Perks Field and The Orangery in the grounds of Kensington Palace, a most stunning venue. I had such a great time and even sat in the champagne bar and drank a glass of my favourite tipple, Laurent Perrier Rose. Such decadence!
I went specifically to buy some rugs to make into a stair runner and I managed to find these three old South American rugs. They need to be unstitched (currently they are two pieces stitched together), then sewn into a long runner which will then be fitted to the stairs.
I can't wait to replace the carpet on my stairs with the runner (I will paint the stairs rather than varnish them). I want to make a feature of the stairs as you come in the front door and these rugs will certainly do that!
I bought them from Odd Limited, a family business, from whom I also purchased this funky lamp. The base is made from twisted fabric. I plan to change the colour of the shade by sponging it with tea - this will give the shade a more aged look. I'll add that to a future post as well as the before and after of the stairs. Can you believe that I managed to get all of these items home on my 50cc Piaggio Vespa?
