Never be afraid to change your mind with interior design — a lesson I learned over the last week! Last weekend, the revamp of my entrance and stairs was completed. I had come up with the idea of using three vintage Peruvian handmade rugs as a stair runner, randomly placed to create a focal point when you open the front door. 

To maximise the rugs I decided to extend the runner into the entrance and then put a wall-to-wall large piece of coir in the space to the front door. However once it was done I knew I had made a mistake — it looked wrong, totally wrong, exactly as if I had used up rug ends! 

My entrance is dead space and on opening the door you are confronted with a flight of stairs into the flat. The intention was to create an interesting focal point on the stairs to draw the eye, but, with part of the entrance laid with two pieces of the runner, the eye didn't know where to look first. It only took me 24 hours to change my mind and rethink the entrance.

A friend of mine had done her whole entrance (similar size to mine) in a lovely gold coloured coir (not the natural colour I had used) and it looked fabulous so I decided to do the same.  Yesterday the chap came and replaced the entrance way with the beautiful coir and suddenly the focal point of the stairs came to live. It was one of those eureka ta-da moments when something just works and it gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling! 

Now you open the front door and eye is immediately drawn to the stairs which is what I had planned.  And the gold coir is such a warm, honey colour unlike the dull natural coir colour.

And my hall table feature in the entrance enhances the experience of entering my abode!
