As I mentioned in my post about outdoor space, I have a tiny parapet at the front of the property and a bay window. It's south facing and therefore a sun trap so a great place to grow plants with strong scents. On the parapet I have a rose in a large pot: Spirit of Freedom by David Austin which is similar to an old-fashioned rose.
On the three window ledges of my bay window are window boxes crammed with lavender which the bees love. I discovered a couple who have a tiny garden not far from me where they keep bees in three hives! They make the most divine honey which they sell to friends and locals. Apparently bees travel in a radius of about 3 miles so they said that there is a good chance that their bees are foraging in my lavender! And the honey has a distinct hint of lavender which is due to the fact that so many in my neighbourhood grow lavender.
Lavender's culinary benefits should not be overlooked. Try making shortbread with it, lavender sugar, lavender ice-cream and a host of other lavender recipes. This year I'm going to dry it and make lavender sachets for my clothes.
