After nearly seven years it's time to revamp my sitting room.
After a confab with my friend who is also my painter and decorator, we decided I should ditch the sofas and the curtains as they were dictating the colour scheme i.e. both are shades of cream and I want to get away from cream and move to more of a cool grey wall colour — a more modern look. We chose Farrow & Ball Cornforth White for the walls with Hardwick White just on the protruding wall of the fireplace. White skirting and white dado rail and above the dado rail and ceiling.
The sofas are off to the auction house tomorrow and the curtains are going to a new home (hopefully) at a fellow Kiwi friend's around the corner. The sofas didn't match in style or colour, and also one was very uncomfortable but they served a purpose for the last two years.
I also have cream roller blinds on the windows as the room is south facing so gets very hot in the summer and being on the first floor and opposite a Common (large park), it is very exposed to the elements so prone to draughts in the winter. I have the original Victorian sash windows and they are pretty draughty. However, I will replace the curtains and roller blinds with inter-lined Roman blinds with a lining that will reflect the sun. I just have to choose a fabric!! And I have to find two new sofas! I think I want sofas that have no "skirt" so that you can see underneath them as this makes the room look larger.
I look at my old sofas (below) and wonder how I ever had them in the same room! ! Here are the dressed and undressed photos of the sofas:
