It's amazing how changing the wall colour from a warm cream to a cool grey can make a room look so much more contemporary and fresh. With a smooth transition to new paint colour, Farrow & Ball's Cornforth White, my sitting room has transformed from its previous state with cream walls, cream curtains, two cream sofas and injections of colour.
So, the revamp will continue with updates to furniture, carpet and window dressing. For now, I've put some of the old furniture back in the room so that I have somewhere to relax, having had four weeks with no sitting room. However, I've now sold most of the furniture and window dressings as their cream and tan colouring aren't suited to the new room colour. I'm also toying with some ideas for replacing the tan carpet including floorboards and coia.
Over the French door I will put beautiful curtains in a muted, vintage floral fabric that will drape elegantly on the ground. Watch this space for further progress of my sitting room revamp!
The Victorian sash windows were in a very very poor state and my wonderful painter and decorator, who is also a good friend and an artist has done the most amazing job of renovating and painting the windows. They are now very beautiful and I will only dress them with Roman blinds in the most gorgeous neutral Lithuanian linen from The Cloth Shop.
