I consider my outdoor space — this small, three-square-foot area — to be like another room and try to use the same design principles that I use indoors.
There is a definite autumnal feel in the air since 1 September despite the days being still quite warm (up to 24°C). It's always a struggle to maintain colour in my outdoor space at this time of year but hydrangeas, roses and fuchsias always add a splash of much needed colour. I am still managing to keep the lobelia in the hanging basket alive and well which also adds colour.
I was at Sissinghurst Castle Garden last week and the gardens were still beautiful despite not being at their peak. However I rather like this time of year outdoors as the light is amazing and the mornings are a bit chilly.
